In 1952, colleges and universities across the country underwent a large-scale restructuring process. Tsing Hua University was transformed from a comprehensive university into a multidisciplinary polytechnic university. By 1965, the number of the laboratories in the University increased to 83 from 16 before the restructuring, and there were a total of 12 departments and 40 majors. The number of students enrolled in Tsing Hua University exceeded 10,000, the campus area doubled its initial size in the early years of the PRC, and several new teaching and research buildings were built.
From 1952 to 1966, Jiang Nanxiang served as the President of Tsing Hua University. During his tenure, he creatively implemented necessary policies to make Tsing Hua a university that is suitable for China's national conditions, leading to the significant development of the University.
