Maddy King: 'Make New Friends, Learn Chinese Culture, Language'

“I was definitely inspired by the hardworking Tsinghua spirit and ethos and that’s why I decided to come back to Tsinghua to work after graduation,” said Maddy King, a student advisor at the International Students & Scholars Center.

After completing a language exchange in Beijing, she fell in love with the city and decided to complete her Master’s degree in China. Coming from Canberra, Maddy joined the International Development Program at the School of Public Policy and Management. “I remember our class field trip to Gansu province, where we visited Chinese government institutions, industries, and cultural sites. It really opened my eyes to China’s diversity and how development is taking place in different contexts,” she recalled.

Currently, she works as a student advisor to support the international community to engage more in all aspects of university life. “Enjoy every day at Tsinghua and don’t forget that it is always your home! Take the initiative to make Chinese friends, learn about the Chinese culture and language,” advises Maddy.
