“The best part of Tsinghua is the people that you meet here and the relationships that you build.”
Gonçalo Teixeira from Portugal started water polo when he was 12. He was once part of the national water polo team and is now the coach of Tsinghua’s water polo team. In the beginning, he was faced with the challenge of training an inexperienced new team, but seeing the players coming and enjoying each training session keeps him motivated to keep going.
“I found that water polo really gives you some kind of family when you aren't in your place, so I was looking for that when I came to China, and that's what we are trying to build here.”
The life in Tsinghua is very different from what it was like back at home. He was amazed at how the campus is like a small city where you can spend the whole semester without having to leave. He is currently studying automotive engineering in the dual degree program with RWTH Aachen University and welcomes anyone who wants to join the water polo team.
